Working On The Master Plan

One of the benefits of creating new artwork every single day has been building a huge catalog of ideas and potential projects. The challenge is that with having so many ideas, it can be hard to know which to pursue

I have always known the importance of creating, what I would call, a “digital graphic”. That is working only with type, color & other vector elements in Illustrator to create a word or phrase. These are the bulk of the art pieces that I have created over the past (almost) two years. However, midway through this year I realized the potential of working with photos and overlaying type or creating an interaction with the photograph.

While I’ve been focusing on using the digital graphics for various products, I have had conversations regarding interest in pairing my lettering with photography for specific projects.

The beauty of working with lettering and photography is the potential to enhance the visual and tell even more of a story.

This week, one of my posts showcased this perfectly. I used a photo that I had taken of my sister and her husband to create a print incorporating a verse from the Bible. Individually, either element had potential to become a lovely visual. However, together they create a beautiful art print that created quite the buzz when I posted it on social media.

Periodically, I would work with photography in my posts, but I decided to be more intentional during the last leg of this challenge. So, for the past month I have been alternating between these 2 different styles for my lettering.

My hope is that the more I work with both these styles, I will strengthen my creative skills and, at the same time, spark ideas and interest about the possibilities.
