What’s Our Intention?

I’ve heard when Oprah is in a meeting she starts by asking, “What is our intention?” Now I’m not one to repeat something just because Oprah does it, although I know people who have met her and they say she is basically warm, inspiring light in human form. All star-struckness aside, to ask yourself “what is your intention?” before you dive into a task can be helpful to give yourself clarity and focus your energy.

As I am pulling together the final details for ArtPrize (the 18-day international art competition I am participating in less than 2-weeks from now) being clear about my intention has helped me be more discerning about what tasks are worth pursuing and what I can let go of.

For example, the idea that because my artwork is made up of dots wouldn’t it be cool to hand out small boxes of “DOTS” (America’s favorite, #1-selling gumdrop brand and my go-to movie candy) to all the people who stop by to talk to me at ArtPrize?

Putting that idea through the “what is my intention” filter, it does feel like that starts to veer off course. Plus, Dean’s expression went from “What now?” to “Dear Lord…” when I brought it up. #notwrong

If my behavior every Halloween is any indication, I probably shouldn’t be left alone with a large amount of candy. I’m no mathematician, but the amount of candy I consume versus what I hand out is what my doctor refers to as “concerning.”

One thing that is in-line with my intention, is wanting to share my experience of participating in ArtPrize with my audience. Which is why I am making an intentional effort to be more active on social media.

Over the next 2-weeks I will be posting more regularly, sharing behind-the-scenes and what I’m up to, so that by the time I am at ArtPrize I will be more mindful of sharing with my audience because I guarantee there will be cool things to share once I am there.

Right now, I am sharing on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, but depending upon what kind of engagement I am getting I may let one or more go. However, if people are connecting with me and it’s providing value I’ll keep it going throughout the 18 days

Last bit of news to update, this morning Dean & I found out that we are each nominated for a Lou Award, which celebrates community and college theatre in the North & Northwest suburbs of Chicago.

To have been able to perform together was such a treat, but for both of us to be recognized for our performance by an independent nominating committee is truly an honor.

The awards ceremony will be online in October and it is open to the public, so I’ll be sure to share that link when it is available.

Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time let me know you are enjoying my posts and also inquired about purchasing prints of my hole-punch artwork. I will have more details next week, plus I will share the results of which print you voted to be the one I use for my FREE giveaway.
