Time to Restart

(Play Audio)

Hello there!  While it certainly has been a while since I’ve dropped into your inbox, I have thought of you often during these wack-a-doodle days. I hope you have been kind to yourself during this unprecedented time and have discovered some new gems about what a truly impressive human you are, cuz, spoiler alert you totally are!

I’ve been wanting to reach out for a while, but I kept questioning whether or not there was any value to that idea. Part of that question came out of not being clear on the purpose of dusting off the ol’ keyboard to start writing again.

You see, I am a full-time voice actor, who happens to work with her spouse (also a full-time voice actor) and together we are building a business. I am also a visual artist who has some big goals I am working towards.

And while I have 2 separate portions of my website and various social media channels that speak to these very different audiences, I started to wonder if my blog could be a place where I bring these worlds together. Maybe I would describe it in the following way:

I am a creative who is pursuing what she loves, no matter what form it takes.

The more I thought about it I got that excited feeling which has always been a signal to me that I should follow an idea.  So in answer to my own question of what would the purpose be of blogging again, I have come to realize that my purpose would be two-fold.

First, I want to encourage people to find their own creative expression. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, everyone is creative. It doesn’t have to be creating visually, your creativity may involve cooking or writing or parenting or gardening or hosting or organizing.

One type of creative expression isn’t better than another. The key is to find yours and then make time and space for you to play in that arena. #gamechanger

Second reason for doing these posts again is the simple fact that I need the accountability. The single greatest contributor to my growth over the years has been regularly creating and sharing.

Rather than ignore what works I’m gonna lean in and see where this takes us.

So if you are good with getting some entertainment, encouragement, dare I say inspiration, or maybe just enjoy being a fly-on-the-wall while this gal works to figure things out, then I am happy to say I am stepping back into my weekly rotation of posting.

However, if this type of content just doesn’t float your boat anymore, I totally get it. I am certainly not everyone’s cup of tea, flavor of ice cream, bottle of bourbon or whatever your preferred taste idiom may be. If that describes you, PLEASE help us both out and unsubscribe. No hard feelings, I promise.

I have no interest in just clogging up your email. This isn’t a numbers thing for me. Truly if the only people who get this are my parents and my friend Sue (who has told me she is down for whatever nonsense I put out into the world) that is absolutely fine.

But if you are game for joining in this ride I do believe we will have some fun along the way.

A few things that you can expect in future posts:

  • Behind-the-scenes as a voice actor. Sharing the process of building relationships and what I’m learning after having recorded over 100 books. My daughters are correct, that everything IS in fact a teachable moment to me and I will not apologize for that.
  • Sharing artwork, both creation and final pieces. While I am still creating lettering artwork and continue to expand that portfolio, I also have other mediums that I have been working in and have plans for putting out into the world.
  • Mindset for creating and navigating challenges. I am in no way an expert, but I am happy to share what I know in order to help you get over your own hurdles or blocks that you encounter while pursuing your creative interests.
  • Other random creative expressions. Sometimes I do other things that don’t involve artwork, like taking random produce from the store to see what I can make with it, or reupholstering an ottoman rather than take it out on trash day. #truestory

I’m also open to other ideas. If there is something you would like me to talk about please drop me a line. Speaking of talking, the last thing I want to mention is that I will also include each post as an audio file. What better way to make use of all this fancy-schmancy equipment than to offer each post as an audio file? #perksofbeinganarrator

Let me know what you think and how the heck you have been these past few years.
