The Only Constant Is Change

Comparison of original and new “Grrrr” artwork. This week’s daily artwork is shared at the bottom of the post.

With over 600 days of creating new art every day, I’ve built up quite a body of work.

The primary value of creating new art every day has been having hundreds of pieces of artwork to do with as I please (yup, the power does go to my head.)

Secondly, it is basically inevitable that you will improve a skill that you work on every day. (I bet you brush your teeth like a boss.)

As your skills improve, you can look back at earlier work you’ve done and see how it could be improved. Or, you may possibly cringe at what you previously shared with beaming pride, seeing more of the rough edges.

Sometimes I adjust the artwork without mentioning it. For example the, “What up Witches?” t-shirt contains a number of adjustments from the original artwork I did a year ago. (My favorite part is the hat on my logo.)

But periodically I talk about revisions I’ve made to my artwork. A few weeks ago I showed adjustments that I made to Silly Goose artwork in order to create a shirt. Click here to read about that if you missed it.

I have an upcoming project that will involve a combination of revisiting some artwork and using others exactly as they were created.

Thanks to a suggestion from a savvy friend, I am going to use my artwork to create FREE stickers for iMessage. (sorry to all my android friends) (Meaning, friends who use android phones, not actual androids.)

Stickers are those graphics you can use to enhance your text messages. Sometimes they are animated and other times they are static, but it’s just a fun way to bring a little color, life and character to your iMessages.

I’ve selected artwork that I think will work well in that format and I am in the process of putting together a pack of them. This past week’s update of “Grrrrr” artwork is an example of some of the artwork that will be used.

My approach when revising artwork is to keep the overall color palette and design, but to update graphics that either are not working or just don’t fit with how my style has evolved.

There will be more on this upcoming free sticker package and how to get it, but as always feel free to share your thoughts and ideas. I can’t guarantee that I will use all of them, but the chances are much greater that I will try ideas that people share, because my mind-reading skills have never been my strong suit. (Although I talk a much bigger game with my children.)
