Taking Aim at the Target

Summer is winding down and we are getting back into a regular rhythm of life. It’s the perfect time to assess where things are at and identify what I’m hoping to get done in the second half of the year.

While I’m thankful for the loose summer routine, all evidence shows I do better with a little structure. (Keeps me off the streets, less likely to cause mischief, fewer song & dance routines in city alleyways, etc.)

So while sharing updates, I’m also going to share some goals because I have a better chance of keeping up with things when I have public accountability. #iknowme

I’ve been emailing out my Introduction Video to various publishers as a way of getting on their radar. At this point, I’m receiving approximately one reply for every 10 emails I’m sending.

In terms of ROI (return on investment) I’m feeling pretty good and think that I’m on to something. The only cost has been my time and I’ve gone from “cold emails” to “lukewarm connections”. (woo hoo!)

Certainly “lukewarm” is not the goal, but it is moving the needle in the right direction. As long as I keep showing up it’s only a matter of time before a project comes up that’s a fit and a “new” publisher decides to give me a chance.

If you haven’t had a chance to watch it click the image and take a look. I’ve already got other ideas of more 1-minute videos like this that I can do.

What are simple actions that would move you even one step closer to a goal?

My Audio Goals for the remainder of the year:

  • Create new 1-minute videos each month as a way to build & strengthen my network
  • Acquire 2 projects from these new contacts

I GOT PUBLISHED!! I’ve been stoking various embers for a while now and an article that I wrote about my 2-year lettering challenge got published on AIGA SF.

It’s a bit of a “pinch me” moment because I remember as a graphic design student learning about AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) as one of the oldest and largest organizations for design.

This particular site represents the San Francisco design community and came about because of a friend sharing my story (thanks Brenda!)

Keeping it real, there have been many people who have said “no thanks” when I’ve been sharing my content. The key is to reframe rejection. All it means is you aren’t talking to your audience so keep going.

My Visual Goals for the remainder of the year:

  • Be commissioned by a business for a lettering project (#target #ultimategoal)
  • Finish my FREE “Start Your Own Challenge” download.

All of this came out of my self-imposed, daily challenge and it sounds like some of you are wanting to dip your toe into your own challenge. (#awwyeah) I’m pulling together all I learned and packaging it up for you to start your own creative journey, for FREE!

Aren’t sure if creating every day would be for you? Check out my article and see if it sparks some ideas.
