Keeping Open To New Opportunities

Although I had grand plans of sending updates these past 2 weeks, it clearly was not in the cards for me. However, I tend to be a “glass is half full” kinda gal, so rather than beat myself up for being M.I.A. the past month, I will instead focus on sharing all the exciting changes going on that have kept me from dropping into your inbox.

Throughout this journey of growing my lettering skills I periodically share about my audiobook work with silly little videos called “Fun Things I Got Paid To Say”. You can check out a recent video where I share about where I’ve gotten some of the voices I use here.

While I have been recording audiobooks for almost 15 years, it’s always been a side gig for me. When projects would come my way, I’d carve out time in my work week to make it happen (my boss has always been so cool about things), but I wasn’t actively making connections for projects.

However, recently I started to ask myself, “why shouldn’t I pursue more narration work?” I reached out to some other people in the industry and it became clear that my “side gig” has been steadily growing (over 80 titles recorded…yowza!) and I think now is the time to take it to the next level.

Of course, my inner graphic-geek seized the opportunity to expand the visual identity I started with my RG logo. Here’s my new audio logo:

Next, Dean helped me update my website to balance between my audio and visual work. While I’ve always considered my website a work-in-progress, I’m LOVING how it’s evolving. Check it out here. (Shout out to my talented hubby for pivoting on this with nary a complaint)

All these steps were the building blocks for this week’s big event…I’m flying to New York City to attend an audiobook conference for the APA (Audio Publishers Association). Let the learning and networking begin!

I will be updating my story on social media, so keep a look out on Instagram or Facebook for in-the-moment updates.

In thinking about all that has gotten me to this point, I’m wondering if there may be some of you who just need to hear some encouragement about what you are doing. Rarely is life a straight path; there are roadblocks and detours and dead ends along the way. However, if you pay attention to what brings you joy or what you are passionate about, might you find an unexpected path that you hadn’t even considered before?

Let me be clear, I have no idea what I am doing (keepin’ it real). I show up and do the work, but nothing is a guarantee and things certainly fall short at times. But along the way I document what I’m doing in the hopes that it may encourage someone else to step out and try something new or take action on an idea.

What do you think? Does this all sound cra-cra? Any one else feeling rumblings of taking something in your life to the next level?

Yes! And seeing what you and Ron have going on, looks like we are both jumping in to the deep end of the pool with our creative ideas. Looking forward to seeing where our efforts take each of us this next year.
