For Your Entertainment…

Slices of days 595 through 602. Full images are shared at the bottom of the post.

One of the most difficult parts of sharing this journey is staying on top of documenting it. I’m not sure if it’s a personality or generational-thing, but I struggle to do what I observe to be quite natural with my kids and their friends.

Creating videos and taking pictures of various activities throughout my day to share on social media is something that I have to make a conscious effort to do or it will not happen.

While I have stretched myself in many ways, I’m quite sure I’m still missing many moments in thoroughly documenting this journey.

A surprising discovery has been how much of my documenting has made use of video. When I first started sharing work, video was nowhere near my radar.

However, now that I’ve been doing this awhile, I can see how it helps for people to get to know me better, and I’ve gotten feedback that you enjoy seeing artwork being created I’ve, as well as various behind-the-scenes moments.

In that spirit I share another video from this past month as we were getting the coffee mugs ready for the shop.

This video captures one of the days when we were still working out some glitches. There are definitely some comedic moments throughout the 2 minutes and 47 seconds. (the entire ordeal was 6 minutes, but I’m getting quite savvy with my editing)

So, in this day of highly-polished, finely-curated social media stories…enjoy this very real moment showing the bumps that come up along the way when you are building something new.

I also want to say that I find it hilarious that the easiest part of this journey has become creating the artwork itself (my inner tortured-artist would have never thought that was possible).

Enjoy!

Enjoyed watching the video. When the sound effects indicated something was wrong, we were left in the dark as to what went wrong. If you are going to include your followers in those episodes, you should clue them in on what was happening. Also I could not read the mug when you held it up so I did not know what saying was on each mug. Disappointing!!
If you want people to watch these videos, you should narrate what was occurring.

Sorry to disappoint Dad. The idea was to show that there were bumps along the way, not to get in the weeds on the specifics. But I hear you that you prefer to have more details on what is going on. Thanks for the feedback.

“Ookkaaaayy.” “Alllriiigght.” You are awesome! I love your creative editing! And I love seeing your explanations for your and Dean’s facial and vocal reactions! I’m so happy for you and with you as you continue growing into who God made you to be and sharing your gifts and talents with the world. Shine on! XO

Thanks Kathy! I wasn’t sure we were going to do anything with that video when we first recorded it, but it is amazing how a little distance can shift perspective, and of course a well-timed sound effect can help too! Thanks for sharing a comment.

Aww, it was too sad watching you become more and more disappointed over the mugs. (Good go, Dean, at trying to keep it positive!) I also know you both are perfectionists, so to many of the rest of us, we thought they looked marvelous!

I’d like to offer a suggestion in terms of your mugs. I’ve already decided they’re going to be Christmas presents for a number of people, but I confess I’m lazy and don’t want to hunt around for the link to your store. Would you consider adding links at the bottom of each post that takes us to the various pages/locations you’d like us to visit — and from which to make purchases??

Absolutely! Another fantastic suggestion Judy, thanks so much for mentioning this. We really appreciate all of the thoughts and ideas because as much as we try to think through the user-experience we know that there is always more that we can improve.
And yes, it has been a process getting those mugs ready for the shop. Moving forward I plan to use that video as a reminder of past challenges that we got through and as evidence that Dean can be more positive than he likes to let on.
