Celebrate Small Wins

I’m no stranger to leaning into “Go Big or Go Home” energy. I enjoy setting goals that push me to strive beyond what I thought was possible.

I can only assume this type of energy was how a Turducken came into existence. If one bird is tasty, three birds have got to be next level.

(SIDENOTE: I’m actually on the fence about whether a turducken is a miraculous culinary feat or further proof that people are just weird & need more supervision. If any of you have experience with turduckens, please enlighten me.)

As much as I enjoy ambitious energy, there are days when tackling smaller items is just as deserving of recognition & a little celebrating.

If you have been catching any of my Friday Lives on either Facebook or Instagram, I shared that I recently had rotator cuff surgery. Nothing quite like having your dominate arm immobilized for weeks to make you appreciate small steps of progress.

While attending physical therapy to get my mobility back to normal function, it occurs to me how we can dismiss small steps or neglect to recognize them at all.

Sure, lifting your arm to brush your teeth doesn’t sound that monumental, but when you’ve been unable to do it for 6-weeks, it brings a perspective of appreciating how far you’ve come.

I should clarify, I DID NOT go 6-weeks without brushing my teeth, nor did Dean brush them for me (as romantic as I’m sure that would have been). I merely used my non-dominate, right-hand, holding my toothbrush like an enthusiastic toddler or aggressive neanderthal, and I got the job done.

Call it maturity, growing older, or just living in this exhausting world, but my view of things worth celebrating has most definitely expanded in recent years.

Some of these small wins include:
  1. Asking for what I want
  2. Setting a boundary with my time
  3. Baking fresh ginger gingerbread and enjoying it with a friend
(there is a song and dance that goes with it)

So while we are in process pursuing our lofty goals and big, bodacious dreams; don’t forget to celebrate the small steps. Because each one is helping you move further down the path.

Plus, if you’re in the habit of celebrating progress, you will be more attuned to notice them.

I’ll share more about this on my Friday Live, which is now in 2-parts; 3:00pm CST on Facebook and 3:15-ish on Instagram. Hope to see you there or catch comments in the replay.

Thanks for allowing me to drop into your inbox. Please share this post with anyone you know who may enjoy this type of content and until next time…keep creating and connecting.
