Hello and welcome to my blog.

My name is Rebecca Gallagher and each week I share what’s going on in the journey to build a creative voice. Hoping to bring encouragement, possibly a nudge, and maybe a giggle or two. Whether it’s documenting the journey of creating new artwork every day for two years, sharing the process of sending 50 shirts to 50 Congresswomen, or waxing poetic about my love of coffee, I hope to bring you value. I’d love to hear from you and find out what you’re into. Drop a message, question, or just say hi!

Mama Said There’d Be Days Like This

Any good story has high points and low points. Think about your favorite books, the ones that have conflict and drama are the ones you keep reading because you want to see how the characters navigate those challenges.… Read More

I Spy With My Little Eye

When my girls were younger, we would regularly play the game “I Spy.” It was a great way to pass the time when we needed to fill time while waiting somewhere because it was something we could always play. All you need is one person to spy something and one person to guess. (As a mom I’m super grateful for simple ways to distract my kids when we are out and about.)… Read More

What the Funk? (How to Navigate Creative Blocks)

When I first set the goal of posting new artwork every day for 365 days, a big hurdle in front of me was how would I think of content every day? At most I had a handful of words and phrases in my mind, but nowhere near what I needed for a full year.

Over the course of the year I worked out a process that helped me to keep up with the ongoing demand for ideas. Once I reached the final day of the challenge I thought, “I’ve managed to finish my entire year-long challenge, surely I will never again have a problem coming up with ideas”. And that’s when the funk hit.… Read More

The Daily Post is Dead, Long Live the Daily Post

This week marks the shift from completing the daily artwork post challenge from 365 days ago to starting a new year with new goals.

I’m super proud of what happened this past year. It all started with an original goal to post every day in order to get more comfortable sharing my work and figuring out my visual style. In light of that goal, this year was a great success; however, so much more happened.… Read More

Make Peace with Being Uncomfortable

The beginning of a new year is full of opportunity, turning over new leaves, making resolutions, etc. But how many of us don’t make the progress we want to because we are stuck in a pattern of how things “should be” done?

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. As it pertains to building a brand or finding your artistic voice, if what you are doing is not bringing the results you are wanting, then it’s time to try something different.… Read More

Expected and Unexpected

We are coming to the end of an entire year of posting new artwork every single day. There have been a lot of lessons learned the past 365 days. One of those lessons became evident during my “sub-challenge” of creating the 12 Days of Christmas.

Throughout the posts of the 12 days artwork, I noticed an increase in comments and engagement from my audience.

Which has me thinking that theme-challenges have some additional value to offer.… Read More

Go Your Own Way

When creating there is a temptation to follow what others do, especially when we see someone who is successful. We can be drawn to that shiny, polished, completed package and think that they hold the secret we’ve been missing.

For the purposes of learning there isn’t anything wrong with copying. However, there comes a time when you need to establish your own creative voice.

Repeating what others are doing is a disservice to yourself and robs the world of your unique view.… Read More

Know Your Why

It is easy to get discouraged when you are putting out content regularly and aren’t getting much engagement from people. We all enjoy the boost that comes from getting a lot of “likes” on a post or when someone takes the time to send a little love via an affirming comment.

This past week I started a theme of doing The 12 Days of Christmas for my daily post. As we are heading into the Holiday Season I wanted to give myself a “project” and I thought doing each of the days would be a fun challenge (and as an added bonus, a holiday product at the end!). Both in working out the phrases for each day, but also creating the accompanying graphics.… Read More
