Well friends, today marks the beginning of ArtPrize, the International Art Competition that will be my home for the next few weeks.
Dean & I had a lovely time this past Sunday trekking up to my venue, The B.O.B. and hanging my artwork. Afterwards we walked around the city and enjoyed seeing and talking with other artist’s installing their pieces at various venues.
I am one of 744 artists involved in the event and believe me, it is a stellar bunch of folks. And I’m not just referring to the impressive artistic talent, which is abundant, but these are some of the kindest, most encouraging people I’ve ever met.
Seriously, the Facebook page for this group is like a big dose of “You are Amazing” sprinkled with “Have You Lost Weight?” kinda energy and it is my mission to meet as many of them as possible over the next 18 days.
#newidea: I could take a selfie with each one I meet and number them off to see how close I get to meeting all 743. Of course, we already know that Steph can’t make it to the “mitten” this year, but I will be see her paintings of Aspens at First Park Congregational Church. Well, who knows if this idea will take root, but as I said, connections are happening.

At the end of all of this event I will be doing the drawing for a FREE 8×10 of the sea turtle.
The actual print was delivered last week and it looks awesome. I’m really looking forward to sending this to one of you.
Finally, even though I’ve been all things ArtPrize lately, there are some cool things happening with my audio work as well. I’ll unpack more about it in a future post, but I will say that in between various events & receptions I will be attending in Grand Rapids and chatting with anyone who wants to talk all things dots with me, I will also be prepping 3 new books to record when I get home. #goodproblems
I am currently riding a delightful wave, but we all know that life is not all rainbows and roses. I very vividly recall years of showing up and hearing nothing but crickets while trying to figure out what I’m doing (and frankly, I’m still in-process with so much of this) I hope hearing about these current highlights gives you a little bit of encouragement to show up for yourself and take a step, no matter how small, toward something you really want.
